Beth "Betsy" Arlene Camp, of Church Street, York Beach, Maine, died July 22, 2017 at home. She was the devoted daughter and only child of the late Beth (Parsons) and Franklin Ellis Camp. Betsy, born September 15, 1948, was a native of York Beach, her family ties going back more then 4 generations. After her graduation from York High School in 1966, she attended the University of Maine (Orono) where she received her B.A. Degree in Mathematics, with a minor in Art History and Education in 1970. At the University she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She received her M.S. in Education from Antioch New England Graduate School in 1993. For 28 years she was a dedicated mathematics teacher at Winnacunnet High School, Hampton, New Hampshire, retiring 2001. From 1960 to 1977, she spent her summers working for her parents who owned and operated the former Ocean House Hotel in York Beach, Maine. From 1977 until 2017, she owned and operated three summer rental cottages that her father had built and a parking lot in York Beach. When not working, Betsy enjoyed painting and pursing a variety of arts and crafts. She and her partner, Richard Bucknam, enjoyed building and painting large displays for holidays and other occasions. These displays could be seen and enjoyed by neighbors and tourists passing by her home. Frequently, parents would take pictures of their children in front of these displays. These colorful displays seemed to give everyone a smile. Betsy was a kind and caring person who was devoted to her family, friends and animals and she will be missed by those who knew her. Betsy is survived by her partner and best friend, Richard Bucknam of York Beach, several cousins and her dogs. Betsy appreciated the devotion and care she received not only from Richard, but also her cousin, David Lindsay, and her doctor, Todd Adams and his family and the Home Health Care from York Hospital. As per Betsy's wishes, there will be no public services as she preferred to have people remember her in life. Her burial will be a private service at the family gravesite in the First Parish Cemetery, York, Maine.
