Cape Neddick, ME - Donald Chase Matthews, 89, passed away May 5, 2017.  Born July 6, 1927 in York, he was the son of the late Frank and Viola (Chase) Matthews.  He graduated from York High School class of 1944.  He was an Army Veteran of WWII.  He was employed at GE in Somersworth and The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  He was a member of the York Beach fire Department for 73 years,  St. Aspinquid Lodge #195 of York, Scottish Rite Valley of Portland, Maine,  American Legion Post 178, Union Congregational Church of York Beach, and York Senior Center. 

He married the love of his life September 17, 1949.  He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Parenteau, Menning) Matthews,  two sons Steven Matthews and wife Caroley, and David Matthews, two grand children Bryan Matthews and Meaghan and Husband Jeremy Schoff, three great grand children, Caroline, Jonah, and Steven Schoff, two brothers Russell Matthews and John Matthews and wife Ginny,  two sisters Joyce Thayer and Marilyn Soule, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, Michael Matthews and a brother George Matthews.
