Janice V. (Luther) Goller

October 21, 1929 ~ June 24, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old


York Harbor, Maine- Janice Violet (Luther) Goller, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2017 surrounded by her family including her loving husband of 64 years.  She was born on Oct 21, 1929 in Springfield, MA to Henry O. and Katherine (Forbes) Luther.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting at the University of Massachusetts in 1952.  On Oct 18, 1952 she married Charles M. Goller. 

They settled in York, Maine where they built a home, raised their children and become active members of the community.  Janice served as treasurer of York Harbor Village from 1971-1975 and enjoyed years as bookkeeper at Bill Foster’s Clambakes during which time she and Phoebe Foster developed a lifelong friendship.  She was a member of York Hospital Auxiliary for many years and donated over 3,000 hrs of her time,  she was an active member of the First Parish Church, volunteered at the York Public Library, and assisted with Meals on Wheels of York.

She was extremely active throughout her entire life attending aerobics classes, golfing and alpine skiing all just this year.  She always had a batch of cookies in the freezer for when the kids or grandkids came home.  She was a founding member of Powderhouse Ski Hill in South Berwick, a ski instructor at the Big A and a Sugarloafer since 1958 spending many winter weekends at the family camp there.  She was also a longtime member of the York Golf & Tennis Club.

Besides her husband she is survived by her children:  Chuck and his wife Debbie of Williston, VT, Stephen and his wife Anita of Topsham ME, Tracy and her husband Michael Beland of South Berwick, ME and Peter and his wife Roxie of Apopka, FL. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud – Taylor Goller, Katherine Leaman, Jason Beland and William Goller.

She will be missed by her family and many in the York Community who knew her.

 

A time of visitation and remembrance for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, June 29th in the Fellowship Hall at the First Parish Church. A memorial service will take place at 1:30pm on Friday in the First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, Maine. A reception will follow. Burial will be private in the First Parish Cemetery.
