February 10, 1963 to September 14, 2017
 
Tamara Leigh Wood -- mother, sister, friend extraordinaire, artist, shaman, foodie, natty dresser, accomplished traveler, multilingual communicator, fighter for the underdog, and lover of French bulldogs -- passed to the other side on Thursday, September 14, 2017.  Her voice will now be remembered through conversations with her loyal, loving, and unfailingly supportive sister Tracy Wood.  Her sense of style, charisma and intrepid nature can still be enjoyed with Miles Wood, her beloved son.  Even her 15-year-old dog, Cosmo, seems to have been imbued with her strength and fighting spirit.  She had the biggest spirit and personality most will ever encounter.
She was born in 1963 into a military family and started her world travels almost immediately.  Her love of fun, finery, and fashion was evidenced at an early age. By age 5, she had already been fondling seashell necklaces in Hawaii, and living and adventuring in Taiwan.  By age 9, she was covering herself in fanciful scarves and making costumes. She started reading early and always had a large pile of books nearby, which continued throughout her life. She was smart articulate and loved a good argument (debate).
At age 7, her family settled at a farm in Hollis NH, where she felt like a fish out of water; she wanted girly things and glamour, but worked hard despite the challenges. Many of her pals from those early years are still close friends. She studied at Middlebury College, where she made many life-long friends. After graduation, she moved to Munich, where she made more life-long friends. After 12 years in Germany, she moved to Cannes and made more life-long friends. Above all, the absolute love, pride, and joy of her life was/is her beautiful boy, Miles.
The people Tamara touched in her too-short time are numerous.  No one who met her would ever forget her.  She was full of courage, fearless in expressing her viewpoints, and lived life on her terms. When there were extras, she enjoyed the finer things and when she had nothing, she made do with a sense of humor.  She had a life-long love affair with oysters and fine wine.  
She was thoroughly interested in spirituality.  Her life-long search was for a universal understanding of herself, her place in the universe, and of love and beauty.  She believed she was on the right road toward spiritual peace and personal growth. Her abundant creativity manifested itself in her jewelry, encaustic paintings, color design, and in everything she did.
While she traveled through life, she never failed to be present when speaking with friend, family member, or stranger.  She fought hard to understand and embrace those around her with whom she had nothing in common besides their humanity! If you were lucky enough to be called a friend, you would never find a truer one.  Perhaps this is how she was able to adapt to so many languages, cultures, and lifestyles during her lifetime.  She went from a farm in New Hampshire to Munich Germany to Cannes France, then back to New England with what looked like ease to the rest of us.   They definitely broke the mold when she was made. Farewell Tamara. You will be remembered and your spirit cherished by all you loved and who loved you.
