Paul A. Gagnon Obituary

Paul A. Gagnon of Kittery, ME, formerly of North Weymouth, MA, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2024. He was the youngest child of the late Paul R. Gagnon and Kathryn M. (Clain) Gagnon. Paul was much beloved by his community, friends, and family. He is survived by his siblings Janet Hubbard of Norfolk, MA; Lynne Weinacker of Helena, MT; and Eric and Beth Gagnon of Old Orchard Beach, ME. He was predeceased by sisters Barbara Amos and Karen Spellman. “Uncle Paul” loved his many nieces and nephews as if they were his own children, including Lisa, Jeff, Chris, Katie, Sarah, Ben, Frank, Hannah, Jesse, Meagan, Zachary, Kaitlyn and over 20 grand nieces and nephews. He adored his many cousins and extended family. Particularly close to Paul was his longtime partner and friend Don Hosick of Ogunquit, ME.

To know Paul was to love him. He was outgoing, kind to everyone he met, and funny. He was the master of puns, a karaoke star, a sock monkey collector, a Red Sox and Patriots fan, and a Hallmark movie aficionado. He loved spending his free time watching birds on the river from his porch while listening to The Carpenters. Time spent with Paul was always special. Talking with Paul almost always ended in laughing or singing - or both.

Paul graduated from Weymouth North High School (MA) in 1984. He was the quintessential showman, starring in many theatre productions. He went on to study theatre, graduating from Bridgewater State College (MA).  Before his career in hospitality, Paul was a radio DJ at a local station in MA, followed by being a popular radio personality in Florida in the 1990s.

Paul worked for years at The York Harbor Inn in York, ME as the guest services manager and event coordinator. He was an essential part of hundreds of couples’ special days, and thought of his co-workers and guests as family.  He also volunteered at community events and at Red Cross blood drives.  Some of his favorite moments were spent teaching English to new Mainer families. Paul will be sorely missed by many.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of Paul's life between 2-5 p.m. on Sunday April 14, at the York Harbor Inn, York, ME.  Donations may be made in Paul’s name to The Autism Society of Maine (https://asmonline.org) or the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation (https://give.curesanfilippofoundation.org).
