Mary Boardman Mackie
Age 89, passed away peacefully on 11 May 2013.Mary was born Mary M. McKay on December 31, 1923 in Bath, ME.She is predeceased by her husbands Carl Boardman Jr , John V. Mackie and her son Jeff Boardman. She is survived by her son Ted Boardman and his partner Sally Turner of Portsmouth, NH, daughter-in-law Susan Boardman of Wells, ME, nephew Peter Moore and his wife Gloria of Zephyr Hills, FL, and all the Boardman nephews and nieces of York, ME and the Callans of Woolwich, ME.Mary loved children. Besides raising her two sons, she took in the Applebaum twins for the first year of their lives when their mother died during childbirth. She hosted several disadvantaged kids through the Fresh Air program, was a Sunday school teacher at the York Beach Congregational church, a Cub Scout den mother, and active at the local and state level of the Parents and Teachers Association. She was known as “Auntie Meem” to the many neighborhood children she baby sat for over the years.Mary worked as a store clerk at markets around York, as a housekeeper in Cape Neddick, and lived with Carl, Ted, and Jeff for many years in the York Beach fire station.The family would like to thank the staff and management at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, NH where Mary has resided for the past two years for their professionalism, dedication, and compassion, Beacon Hospice for support in the last few weeks, and Medicare/Medicaid for providing the financial support to make it possible.
