David R. Ouellette Obituary

David R. Ouellette Sr, (aka Pappy or Oleo to friends and family) of Laurel Lane, York Beach, ME passed away at home on September 26, 2019.

Dave was the son of Roland (Mink) Ouellette & Winona Karcher Ouellette, born February 6, 1941 at Frisbie Hospital in Rochester, NH. He attended elementary schools in Sanbornville, NH., Lebanon, ME., and Rochester, NH. He graduated high school from Holy Rosary High School with the Class of 1959.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on active duty from 1960 to 1964, and in the Navy Reserve from 1964-1966. His training was at Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois. There after he served aboard the submarine tender USS Orion AS-18, as SFM3-SFM3-DC Division-Ships Repair 1960-1964.

Dave was a life member of the American Legion Clarence L. Perkins Post #60, the NRA, the North American Hunting Club, and played on the Poor Peoples Pub Softball team for many years. He also bowled for the Spaulding Fiber league.

Construction work was his main employment for most of his adult life, but he also was employed by Davidson Rubber in Dover & Farmington, Spaulding Fiber Co., and retired from Index Packaging.

He was an avid hunter & fisherman and loved spending outdoor time with his children, grandchildren,  nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was a kind, generous and caring family man and a good neighbor to all. Dave made friends easily, and had a special connection with children, teaching them about hunting and fishing, camping & sports or just listening to their versions of the Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf. He listened intently of the play by play account of their softball, cheering, football, baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer experiences.

Dave is survived by his children Lisa Morneault (Maury), Jennifer Mulcahy (Will), Tara Gravier (Josh) and David “Chip” Ouellette Jr. (Maria) his sister Jeannette Dixon-Haney (David Sr.), an uncle Ronald Holmes Sr., aunt Marion Randall Karcher, a special cousin & great friend Wes Glennon, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Love and many thanks to his beloved neighbors and friends, Bill, Tim and Paula Corbett, John and Lee Scichilone, Tim and Colette Bickford, The Moon Family, Steve and Sherry McCurley, and Jill Monahan.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the VA Medical Center staff Dr. Corcoran, Dr. Broketa, Dalila Sequeira and the entire oncology team, the York Hospital Hospice team, RN’s Grace & Mary (RN’s), Jayme (aid), Julie (CSW) and Peggy (call center contact).

Dave was predeceased by his parents Roland & Winona Ouellette, brother in-law Wilbur J. Dixon, sister in-law Joanne Barker, wife Billie Ouellette (1972), wife Ellen Ouellette (2015)

 

Calling hours  will take place from 6:00-8:00pm on Tues., Oct. 1st in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine.  A funeral home service will be held at 11am on Wed., Oct. 2nd with burial and Military Honors to follow in the First Parish Cemetery.
