York, Maine-Kenneth E. Towne, 89 of 28 Fernald Ave., passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018. He was born February 1, 1929 in Essex, MA a son of the late Earle M. and Ruth E. (Eaton) Towne. During his lifetime he enjoyed fishing, clam digging on the Essex river and spending time up at the family Camp. He served in the United States Navy. He had many jobs during his lifetime, he drove a tractor trailer, he was one of the first letter carriers for the Post Office in York, he delivered oil for Roger Young Oil Co. and he owned his own Sign Company (Towne Sign Co. of York, Maine). He was a member of the York Village Fire Department and served as Chief for 10 years, he was a part time Policeman for the York Harbor Police Department and a member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge for 50 years. He leaves 3 sons, Kenneth Towne Jr. and his wife Cinda, Benjamin Towne and Jody Towne and his wife Meredith; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Earle, Edward and Pauline. His wife of 55yrs, Cynthia J. (Pease) Towne died in 2007.
A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at 11am on Thursday, October 18th in the First Parish Cemetery, 180 York St., York, Maine.
