Husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor and confidant Kevin James Burke passed Wednesday, October 25th. Kevin, with his wife by his side, fought bravely against the cancer that would finally take his life. His wife and two children were with him when he passed.
Kevin was born in Boston, MA, on March 25, 1937, raised in Wellesley, MA, and lived the last 44 years in York, ME. After a brief, yet honorable, service in the U.S. Army, Kevin went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont. He secured his Masters of Business Administration from Babson College in 1962. He was a retailer and spent over 20 years managing stores in several locations for well-known retail stores. He and his wife, Cecile, also owned and operated a small business magazine in Nashua, NH. He was an adjunct professor at several local colleges for over 20 years. Kevin’s keen mind, wealth of knowledge, and friendly demeanor helped him connect with students in ways that made lasting impressions. He was quick to smile and his dry and wonderful sense of humor was just endearing.
Kevin leaves a loving family – his wife of 60 years, Cecile A. (Bucknam) Burke, and children Kimberley Burke Kercheval (Aaron) and Cameron James Burke (Sheila). Grandchildren are Samuel M. Kercheval (Katie Spohr), Christine A. Kercheval, Kendel A. Burke, MacKenzie K. Burke, and Ashton J. Burke. Kevin’s siblings are Francis J. Burke (Mary), Dorothy M. Burke, Donald B. Burke (Suzanne), deceased. Kevin also leaves several nieces and nephews.
We love our husband, father, grandfather, friend and confidant and we miss him.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM at the First Parish Cemetery in York, ME on October 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Durgin Pines, Resident Activity Fund, 9 Lewis Road, Kittery, ME 03904 in memory of Kevin.
