Paul A. Barron Obituary

BARRON, Paul, 73, of York, Maine, passed away suddenly on November 10, 2019. Son of the late Aloysius and Kathryn (Sullivan) Barron, he was born November 1, 1946 in South Boston, Massachusetts. He attended St. Peter’s School in Dorchester. After graduating from South Boston High School, Paul served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a paratrooper in 173rd Airborne Brigade. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1974 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for General Electric in Rutland, VT and Troy, NY before moving to Maine in 1976. He was a welding engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 24 years before retiring in 1999.

Paul was a talented woodworker and all around handyman, building furniture and many additions over the years. He loved to cook and was happiest preparing 30 pound Thanksgiving turkeys or 80 lobsters for big family events. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons at Lake Anasagunticook in Canton, ME, and attending their baseball and soccer games.

Paul is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Ellen (DeCourcey) Barron; daughters, Katie Barron of York, ME, and Maureen Boston and her husband Evans of Cumberland, ME; grandsons, Jimmy Boston and Charlie Boston of Cumberland, ME; sisters, Kathryn Hanson of Rockland, MA; Maureen Schofield of Haverhill, MA; Janice Chin of Boscawen, NH; Diane Rogers, of Rockland, MA; Linda Tahvonen of Huber Heights, OH; and many beloved brother and sister-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Stephen and Robert.
