Phoebe Apgar Foster

May 7, 1924 – July 18, 2018

Widow of the Late William Foster. She was born in Cokesbury, New Jersey the only daughter of Hazel (Wade) and Ross Apgar.

She is survived by her children Wendy Cote Wood (Brian) and William Mark Foster (Dana). Six grandchildren: Hannah Mckinney, Jessica Iozzi (Steve), Pierce Cote (Hannah), Peter Foster (Meaghan), Katherine Foster, and Sarah Bolduc (DJ). Eight great-grandchildren: Madelyn Iozzi, Annabelle, Jack and Sawyer Foster, Kali and Will Bolduc, Mathias Mckinney, and Conrad Cote.

Phoebe and her husband of 71 years were original owners of Bill Foster’s Down East Clambakes and Foster’s Flower Shop. She and Bill were honorary members of the York Chamber of Commerce and were the first recipients of the York Citizen of the Year Award. She was a member of the First Parish Church in York since 1942 serving on various committees. Phoebe was also a Life Member and past Matron of Fadette Chapter OES and past Grand Ruth of Grand Chapter of Maine OES. She was a member of the Eliot Garden Club and State Life Member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine. Phoebe served on the GCFM State Board for 4 years as chairman of Garden Therapy.

Phoebe enjoyed 30 winters in her home in Bimini, Bahamas. Phoebe and Bill shared their winter home with family and friends.

In addition to Bill, Phoebe was predeceased by her parents and brothers Ross, Paul, and Richard Apgar.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Phoebe’s life will be held at the First Parish Church, York, Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 11:00 with a reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. Flowers are welcomed and donations can be made to the First Parish Cemetery or York Hospital.

The Foster Family would like to thank the staff on Dickens at Sentry Hill for their compassionate care and exceptional service and to Phoebe’s companion Bridget Caramihalis for her loving care of their mother and grandmother for 2 years.
