Wells, Maine—Vincent F. Flaherty, 85, of Wells, Maine and Sebastian, FL, passed away at York Hospital on Sunday, June 24, 2018. He was born on July 23, 1932, to Thomas A. and Agnes (McMahon) Flaherty in Manhattan, NY.
Vincent served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Seton Hall University, and was awarded a Doctorate in Education from Fordham University. After more than 30 years at St. Peter’s University, Jersey City, he retired a full professor.
He leaves behind his cherished wife and helpmate of 34 years, Victoria (Terry) Flaherty; a son, John Flaherty of Oregon, two daughters, Julia R. Flaherty and Amy Hovell, both of New Jersey; three brothers, Thomas A. Flaherty (Kate) of Ridge, NY, Brian P. Flaherty (Mary) of Lords Valley, PA, and Dennis J. Flaherty (Marion) of Yorktown Heights, NY; two sisters, Gail P. Cornacchia (Ray) of Hartsdale, NY, and Arlene F. Flaherty, OP of Rye Brook, NY. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, his four legged child, Bailey, and a much loved sister-in-law, Patricia A. Bell.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Thursday, June 28, at St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Rd., Wells, Maine. Burial with Military Honors will take place at 1pm in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Springvale, ME. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Dominic, Blauvelt, NY.
