Virginia Allen Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Warner Allen died peacefully in Sentry Hill on April 20th, 2018 in York, Maine at the age of 90. As always, her beloved cat “Boots” was by her side.

Ginny is survived by her children Melinda Fones-Sundell of Stockholm, Sweden, Tom Fones of Saint Paul, Minnesota, and James Warner of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; siblings Henry Warner, June Fernald, and Linda Flowers of Cape Neddick, Maine and William Warner of Castro Valley, California.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Johan Sundell, Gustaf Sundell, Emma Sundell, Robert Fones, Gabriela Fones and Elizabeth Fones and great-grandchildren Oscar, Ludvig, Svea and Lovisa Sundell.  She is preceded in death by her siblings Samuel Warner and Lauretta Abbott of Cape Neddick, Maine, and Barbara Otto of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Ginny was born on February 17th, 1928 in Bristol, Connecticut, the first of eight children of Henry Flint and Mina Wilkinson Warner. She graduated from York High School in 1946.  She attended Nasson College of Springvale Maine and graduated from the University of California Los Angeles in 1951 with a degree in nutrition. Ginny was a lifelong member of the American Dietetic Association and an advisor to the American Heart Association.

She married George Allen of Redlands, California in 1989. After moving to Redlands, Ginny began working for Redlands Community Hospital as a dietician. Her children remember her as a wonderful, sweet mother who always encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Ginny was accomplished at water color painting and often exhibited her work in art shows. She was a friendly and charming woman who loved her family and friends dearly.  She was beloved by all who knew her.

Calling hours  will be held from 5 to 7pm on Friday, April 27th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine.  A funeral home service will take place at 11am on Saturday, April 28 with burial to follow in the First Parish Cemetery.  Rev. Linda Hirst will officiate the ceremony and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Ginny’s life.  There will be lunch following the service.
