Alice E. “Babe” (Meagher) Price of York, ME, beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Price for 70 years before he passed away on November 10, 2024, died peacefully on September 11, 2025 on what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary.
Babe and Bob were high school sweethearts at Medford High School (class of ’49) who over their 70 year marriage built a life around family, friends and fun. There were the NYC years where they forged lifelong friendships with co-workers including the Susla’s, Gibbon’s, O’Keefe’s and Currans, and together they hit up just about every bar and Broadway show in Midtown Manhattan. They moved to Darien, CT in 1963 and met Chickie and Ed Turner, and the two families attended Dartmouth football games and spent every holiday together from Fourth of July to Christmas as a blended crew. In 1993, they retired to York, ME after vacationing with good friends the Fedeli’s, Cahill’s and Menides’s at Moody Beach for over 30 years and determining, like so many others, that Maine felt like home. There, they joined the York Golf & Tennis Club where they were members for 30 years, and Babe found another group of good friends, including Deanna Block and Barb Duggan, playing tennis, golf and bridge.
Babe will be remembered for her dogged determination to always find a spot with a view when enjoying a cocktail. She was fond of a perfect Rob Roy, made her particular way, and Barnacle Billy’s has likely seen a dip in their sweet vermouth sales without her. She was the straight man to Bob’s humor, and they loved nothing better than to laugh together. She loved to read and spent many afternoons with a good book up at the Nubble. She was a jigsaw puzzle and crossword puzzle enthusiast, too. She never said no to babysitting her four grandchildren no matter the circumstances including two cases of chicken pox on her watch. She and Bob loved to attend their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events where she was often their most vociferous fan. She went back to work once her kids were school age, and she found success in market research traveling the country interviewing CEO’s for market studies.
Babe is survived by her children: Lynne & her husband, Pete Montesanto, Bob and his wife Daryl, and John. She was the best Nana to her four loving grandchildren, Whitney Montesanto Miles (and her husband, Devon), Jack Montesanto, Nick and Sydney Price, and a great grandson, Jack Miles. She is also survived by her sisters, Marjorie Sasso and Patricia Schreunder (and her husband Mike Schruender), and by her brother, Jack Meagher and his wife Carol, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
