Anthony H. Vinet

York, Maine- Anthony H. Vinet (Tony), 80, of River Meadow Lane Ext., passed away on Saturday,
July 18, 2026 at home with his wife, Kathleen by his side. He was born November 10, 1945 in
Somerville, MA a son of the late Horatio A. and Mary A. (Brock) Vinet. 

He leaves his wife of 55yrs, Kathleen (Cain) Vinet; his son, Jonathan Vinet and his partner,
Stephanie Morrison of Newmarket, NH with their three children, Henri Morrison, Zachary and Nora
Vinet; his daughter Kelley Downie and her husband, Michael Downie of Eau Claire, WI along with
their four children Abigail, Lillian, Robbie and Ellen. He leaves behind his older sister Mary Delores
Meador of Arlington, MA along with numerous nieces, nephews and extend family members.
Tony grew up in Medford Massachusetts. He played baseball for Medford High School and was
remembered for once hitting a home run. Tony went on to put himself through Northeastern
University, taking advantage of the student work-study, co-op program. He graduated in May, 1968
with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. After a multi-week backpacking trip
around Europe, he relocated to York in August of 68’ where he commenced his 40-year career in
nuclear engineering at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Tony was a devout man of faith and long-standing parishioner of St. Christoper’s Catholic Church.
He lived an active lifestyle that entailed extensive national and international travel with his family and
friends. He was an avid tennis player and long-standing member of the York Golf & Tennis Club. He
took up skiing while at Northeastern University and went on to get his EMT, enabling him to become
a volunteer ski patrol for Mt. Agamenticus Ski Area. Tony later used his EMT training to save a
friend’s life in a tree felling accident. He had many interests and hobbies that included playing
Cribbage, a love of the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots, boating and sailing, gardening and oil painting.
He loved his father’s favorite game, soccer and volunteered as a coach for his daughter Kelley’s
youth soccer teams. Tony maintained a small vineyard at his home. He took pride in making
various wines, jams, jellies and brandies from the fruits that he grew. He was a self-taught guitar
player and loved to sing and dance. He was a long-term member of the New England T-Party and
enjoyed tinkering on his 1951 MG TD, a car that he held since age 18.

In 1981 Tony architecturally designed what would become his family’s home. His plans included
elevations, structural engineering for gabble framing and the use of solar energy. He had the home
built to his plans. He plumbed, wired and performed the finish carpentry of the home himself to save
construction costs.

Having lost his own father at just 15yrs, Tony was raised by his mother, Mary who worked nights as
a nurse to provide for her family. Tony was a self-made man. A truly exemplary husband, father,
uncle, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He was an extraordinary man in ordinary dress.
He will be missed for his wisdom, grace, insight, whit, intellect, friendships and so many
contributions that he made to his family and local community.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, July 26th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home,
91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine. A funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 11am on Monday, July 27th in
St. Christopher's Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, Maine. Memorial contributions may be made to a
