Anthony M. Mazokopos, 89, of York, Maine passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 21, 2025. He was born on July 6, 1939 in Istanbul, Turkey, a son of the late Milton and Maria (Zacharopoulos) Mazokopos.
Tony graduated Bentley College with a degree in accounting. He worked for many years as a controller for Kennedy’s Department Store in Boston. After Kennedy’s closed, he continued his career as a controller for Louis Boston and later served as Chief Financial Officer for the Belmont Country Club in Belmont, Massachusetts.
Tony was immensely proud of his Greek heritage. Due to the political and economic pressures on the Greek community in the 1950's in Turkey (formerly Constantinople) he moved to Germany. His father and mother moved as well and settled in Athens, Greece. After about 5 years he moved and resided in Quebec, Canada. In 1968, he drove his beloved green Volkswagen Bug to the United States, where he settled in Newton, Massachusetts. It was there that he met and married his late ex-wife, Sophie. Tony became a proud U.S. citizen on April 30, 1973.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Maria E. Speckman, and her husband, Robert, of New Hampshire; his son, Charles Mazokopos, and his wife, Megan, of Wayland, Massachusetts; and his beloved grandchildren, Mia, Nathan, and Alexa.
He shared many years with his long time companion Ellen Jennette of York, Maine. Also, had made many great memories with her extended family.
He found great joy in spending time by the ocean and had a lifelong love of reading and bird watching. He was a proud member of the Alleppo Shriners of Massachusetts. Tony also cherished the companionship of many pets, especially of his late cat, Fluffy.
