Bertha R. (Latakas) Leverone

(York, Maine) - Bertha R. (Latakas) Leverone, age 96, passed away peacefully at Sentry Hill Retirement community in York, Maine. Born in Worcester, Mass, she was the daughter of Peter and Beatrice Latakas, and wife of the late Eugene Leverone of York, Maine.

Extremely proud of her Lithuanian heritage, she spoke and wrote her parents’ language all her life.

Bertha attended Framingham State Teacher College (Framingham State University). She successfully served on the faculty until she retired to raise her family. Later in life, Bertha embarked on a career as a model, film and tv actor, and was a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, appearing in dozens of movies, tv shows and print ads.

Always drawn to the ocean, she loved Cape Cod, the north shore and eventually fulfilled a lifelong dream. With her late husband Eugene, Bertha moved from Lynnfield Mass to York, Maine where they spent many happy years.

Bertha cherished life and all it had to offer. She loved meeting new people everywhere she went and her broad smile and sparkling eyes charmed her many friends, old and new. Open and outgoing she was always ready with a compliment.

Bertha was married for 65 years to her husband Eugene until his death in 2013. She is survived by her children, Robert E. Leverone and his wife Ellyn of Yonkers, NY, Richard J. Leverone and his wife Lee-Anne, of York Maine, and Christine Leverone Orrall and her husband Robert of Manchester, Mass and Inlet Beach Florida. Her son David Leverone predeceased her in 2017.
Grandchildren Adam E. Leverone, Tessa L. Leverone, Jake L. Orrall, Jamin W. Orrall, Justine L. Orrall.
