October 7, 2002 ~ December 10, 2022 (age 20) 20 Years Old

Obituary

It is with great sadness and much love that we mourn the sudden loss of Brian D. Kenealy, 20, of York, Maine on December 10, 2022. Brian died in a motor vehicle accident in Castine, ME where he was a student at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA). He was born October 7, 2002 in Boston, son of Beth Jimmo and Daniel Kenealy. He was raised in York, ME and graduated from York High School in 2021, where he was a three-season varsity athlete in soccer, winter track, and baseball. He was currently in his second year at MMA, majoring in Marine Transportation Operations. He was a member of the Maine Maritime Academy Regiment of Midshipmen and was so proud to be following in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career at sea.

From a young age, Brian’s humor and charisma were apparent to anyone who met him. An MMA classmate recounted, “If Brian was in the room, everyone was happy”. Soccer was a passion of his from the time he was three years old on the town’s rec soccer team, to four seasons at YHS, and the past two seasons with MMA’s varsity team. He was a solid defender and teammate on and off the field. He was happiest when active, and his coaches and teammates across sports echo the sentiment that he was always a dedicated, hard-working, and cheerful player whether it be on the field, the track, or the diamond. With his family, he explored much of eastern Canada and US, including ice skating throughout Ontario and Quebec, hiking 4,000-footers in the White Mountains, and conquering double black diamonds on skis. Brian loved to travel, and most recently he embarked on a training cruise through MMA which brought him to destinations such as the Azores and Iceland where he took full advantage of the many unique activities. Brian lived life to the fullest and made friends everywhere he went. He had a large close-knit pack of friends throughout his school-aged years and into university. Together they enjoyed so many sports as well as cliff jumping, rafting, and camping.

In recent years, his dream of having a dog was realized when the family adopted Daisy, whom he adored. The feeling was definitely mutual, and she will miss him dearly. For several years Brian was employed part-time and in summers by Stonewall Kitchen in York. His teasing ways and winning smile lightened the workday in the kitchen and won over customers. Most recently he worked as a valet at the Cliff House, where he was delighted to drive the fanciest of cars, even if only a few hundred feet!

Along with his parents, Brian is survived by his brother Peter, and his sisters Laura and Molly. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Elaine Jimmo of Miramich, NB, and his paternal grandparents, Carol and Bill Kenealy of Lexington, MA. Also mourning Brian are his aunts and uncles, Patrick Kenealy (Tracy) of St Helena, CA, Kate Kenealy Dugan (John) of Lexington, MA, Nicole Hogan (Louie) of Miramichi, NB, and Paul Jimmo of Miramichi, NB, and his nine cousins. He is also survived by countless friends, most of whom he has had since he was a child. Brian was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Wally Jimmo of Miramichi, NB.
