Caroline Hollingsworth Obituary

Caroline Jeanes Hollingsworth died peacefully at home on June 2nd, 2024, surrounded by her family. Always known as Carol, she was born May 20th, 1932, in Philadelphia to Grace Price Morgan and Henry S. Jeanes, Jr. of Devon, Pennsylvania. She attended Chatham Hall School and Bryn Mawr College.

In 1952, she married Mark Hollingsworth of Boston, Massachusetts. They raised their family in Dover, Massachusetts and York Harbor, Maine. Carol spent much of her life in York Harbor, beginning with summers as a child and eventually residing full-time there for the last 30 years.

Her lifelong devotion to the Episcopal Church was an important part of her life. She served as a Trustee of Trinity Church, York Harbor, for more than three decades and was a dedicated member of St. George's Church, also in York Harbor, providing a caring companionship to many.

Described by a longtime friend as "endlessly generous and gently encouraging," Carol touched the lives of people of all ages. She was the consummate host, bringing people together for gatherings large and small, and there was always a place for everyone at her kitchen table.   She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren and was relentless in keeping up with all whose lives touched hers.  In her final years, she was cared for by a remarkable team of caregivers who became an integral part of her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mark, and her brothers, Henry S. Jeanes, III and Marshall M. Jeanes. She is survived by her five children, Caroline McC. Hollingsworth, Mark Hollingsworth, Jr. (Sue), Louise H. Baker (Bill), Ann Hollingsworth (Harry Hanson), and Jennie H. Jacobson (Curt), as well as twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and Cody, her canine soulmate.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 18, 2024, at Trinity Church, York Harbor. Donations in her memory may be made to Trinity Church, P.O. Box 323, York Harbor, 03911 and St. George's Church, P.O. Box 364, York Harbor, 03911.
