York, ME – Constance (Connie) Mary Vieten passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026 with her entire loving family by her side.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 65 years, Vincent. She is survived by her children: son Michael; son Vincent and his wife Jeanne; son Thomas and his wife Patti; daughter Jeannine; son Daniel and his wife Holly; his 10 wonderful grandchildren: Katelyn, Thomas and his wife Christine, Michael and his wife Shira, Caroline and her husband John, Hank, Brian and his wife Anna, Matthew and his wife Kathleen, Kayla and her husband Sankalp, Bonnie, and Kelli; and 8 great-grandchildren Emma, Colleen, Norah, Kennedy, Maya, Cassidy, Maeve, and Andrew, as well as her sister Nancy and many nieces and nephews.
A wonderful mother and grandmother, with her beloved Vin, going to her children and grandchildren’s sports games and events were her cherished hobby. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were truly her pride and joy.
Born and raised in Baldwin, New York; the daughter of Lawrence and Mary McKeown, she has lived the last 30+ years as a resident of Maine, between the towns of York and Kittery.
After graduating from Baldwin High School in 1950, she attended Hofstra College in Hempstead, NY, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in just three years. While at Hofstra, she was Secretary of Student Council and a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She met her husband Vincent at Hofstra and they were married in 1953.
She was a voracious reader, brilliant in many ways and simply amazing with puzzles and trivia. There was not a word search, sudoku, or crossword puzzle she couldn’t conquer. Watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with her was amazing, every family member marveled at her mastery of these shows. Other hobbies included reading and needlework, winning many blue ribbons at state fairs for crocheted Afghans.
She loved singing and dancing. Her children have fond remembrances of her caring for the household, usually singing while she worked. As her children got older, she developed a new passion, and aerobic dancing became one of her favorite pastimes. Not only was it her personal exercise routine but Connie loved it so much she worked for “Jacki Sorenson’s Aerobic Dancing” doing publicity and registrations.
A great cook and a true “Home” maker, her home was always welcoming to family, and holiday dinners were always special. She also had a flair for decorating and had lots of practice in the many homes they owned including Westbury NY, Northport, NY, Birmingham, MI, Sparta, NJ, Skidaway Island, GA, Alton, NH, York ME, and Kittery ME.
Connie too was never one to let her husband be the only storyteller in the house; she always cherished memories with her family and loved recounting funny stories from everyone's childhoods.
Her strength was and always has been, her “nature to nurture” all members of the family to succeed in life. She was her husband Vincent’s biggest supporter on and off the athletic field, providing him the critically needed underpinning moral support to achieve his extraordinary accolades. She embodies the age old adage that for every successful man, there is a dedicated supportive woman.
Her dedicated support never wavered with Vincent, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She epitomizes a family matriarch and in that role she delivered so much for so many. She instilled those same morales and beliefs in her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, who she loved so dearly, and will continue to be passed down for generations to come.
What always mattered most was her family and their happiness, as well as all her many friends over the years. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a very devoted wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be truly missed and thought of often by so many who loved her so dearly. We will all always remember her with a smile on her face, and a happy heart!
Connie always had great support for the military so the family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which supports veterans and first responders.
