David G. Monsen

David G. Monsen, 64, passed away unexpectedly from a medical event on May 21, 2025, in York, Maine. Born on December 30, 1960, in Concord, Massachusetts, son of the late Richard and Rose (Zina) Monsen. Dave lived a life full of love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family.

For over four decades, Dave shared an enduring love with his wife, Maureen Whalen Monsen. Their bond was the foundation of a close-knit family that brought him immense pride and joy. Together they raised two daughters, Danielle Monsen-Kapise and her husband, James Carnell-Kapise of Augusta, ME and Meghan Monsen Laflin and her husband Jake Laflin of Hallowell, ME, who were the center of his world. Dave’s greatest happiness came from being “Papa” to his beloved grandchildren: Colin Monsen; Jordyn, Waylon, and Weston Kapise; and Shelby Laflin.

Dave was known for his bright hazel eyes and contagious smile, features that lit up every room he entered. His voice carried with warmth and humor, making it impossible not to notice when he was around. He had a remarkable gift for conversation and could strike up a friendly chat with anyone he met. Whether it was a neighbor or a stranger on the beach, Dave made people feel seen and heard.

He found peace in simple pleasures: fishing off the bridge, scratching lottery tickets with hopeful anticipation or sitting quietly at Short Sands Beach watching the waves roll in. He also enjoyed spending countless hours volunteering for the YCSA food pantry. These moments reflected his appreciation for life’s small joys and his deep connection to the coastal town of York.

Dave’s presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him best. In addition to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Norm Charrette (partner Julie Stoupakis). He now joins his family; parents Rose and Richard Monsen; brother Dana Monsen; sister Celeste Monsen; in-laws Thomas and Patricia Whalen, and granddaughter Madison Laflin in eternal rest.

May David G. Monsen’s memory bring comfort to all who loved him and continue to feel the warmth of his spirit in their lives. A funeral Mass will be held on June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher’s Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, Maine.
