Donald M. Neary Obituary

Donald Murray Neary

b. May 5, 1930 d. December 16, 2021

Born to Emily Clarke Neary and Martin John Neary in Somerville Massachusetts, Don was the youngest of 7 children. He is predeceased by his wife Ann Delorfano Neary of Malden, MA, his sister Mary Elizabeth Judy of York Beach, ME, and his five brothers: Frederick L. Neary of West Medford, MA, Martin John Neary of CA, Edward J. of Brighton, Ma, William C. Neary of York Beach, and Robert J. Neary of York Beach. We are comforted knowing they are having a good reunion up there. He is survived by his many nieces and nephews.

He attended St. Anne’s School in Somerville and served in the Army from 1952-1954 in Alaska. Don worked for Boston Sand & Gravel and was a long-time and proud member of the Teamsters’ Union. He married Ann on September 17, 1971 after a lengthy courtship. They settled in Malden, MA and kept a home on Long Sands in York Beach. He eventually moved to Buck Street, York Beach and was cared for by his niece Deborah Judy into his later years.

He had learned to drive at age 10 and that sparked a lifelong passion with the automobile. His hobbies included refurbishing Model A cars and keeping family members in good working vehicles. He also enjoyed bird watching and also people watching from his porch across from Long Sands Beach. He loved the York Beach area as much as his beloved Boston. He will be missed for his generous heart and his Irish smile.

A Trucker’s Prayer

Lord, please help me to be safe

as I travel each mile.

Let your presence guide me

and bring me a smile.

Take care of my family

while I am away.

Let them know I miss them

each and every day.

Steer me clear of danger as I

cross the country alone.

I put my hands in yours, Lord,

Keep me safe, bring me home.
