Eleanor F. (Lee) Loan, 90, most recently of Kittery, ME, died peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025, after a long and fruitful life. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, on May 27, 1935, to Walter and Lillian (Merrill) Lee. She was raised in Maine.
During her 54-year marriage to the late and beloved Paul E. Loan, she was also the loving mother to five children who were raised in Somerville, MA: Edward Loan (deceased), Paul and his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Loan of Methuen, MA, Lezlee (Loan) and her husband James O’Connor of York, ME, Daniel and his wife Alicia Loan of Methuen, MA, and Walter Loan (deceased). She enjoyed spending time with her twelve grandchildren and four great- grandchildren, proudly boasting about each child as the single most talented, beautiful, and smartest person on Earth. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Virginia “Ginny” Thompson (Lee); her brother-in-law, Daniel Thompson; and her many nieces and nephews.
In her retirement, Eleanor traveled the US with her husband—she visited most of the continental states and Hawaii. Her home was always filled with cherished items from her travels. Eleanor loved spending Summers at the cottage and holidays with family, gardening, and cooking meals for her loved ones. She will be missed beyond belief, but her legacy lives on through her family.
Services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. Christopher’s Church in York, ME. A reception will follow the Mass, and a private burial will occur at a later date.
