Elizabeth “Betty” J. Matthews, 92, of U. S. Route One in Cape Neddick, Maine passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on January 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Meninno (an Italian immigrant) and Florence (Dooning) Meninno, who died in childbirth. She was the niece of the late Horace and Alice (Dooning) Parenteau of York Beach, Maine who lovingly raised her.
She is a graduate of York High School, class of 1948. She married the love of her life, Donald C. Matthews, on September 17, 1949, and they went on to raise three sons.
Betty was a bookkeeper for most of her life. She was also a member and very active at the Union Congregational Church of York Beach for many years and a member and volunteer at the York Senior Center in York Beach.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Donald C. Matthews, a son Michael Matthews of California, and one brother Vincent Mennino of Brockton, MA. She is survived by her sons David Matthews, Steve Matthews and his wife Caroley and daughter-in-law K.T. Matthews of Aquanga, CA; grandchildren Bryan Matthews and Meaghan Schoff and her husband Jeremy; three great-grandchildren Caroline, Jonah, and Steve Schoff, all of York; many nieces and nephews.
