Francis H. Zanca

   Francis Hubert Zanca, 82 from York Beach , Maine , affectionately known as “Papa” or “Frannie” , passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 9, 2023 at his home.

He is survived by his daughter Michele F (Zanca) Gallagher and her fiance Thomas Osterhoudt, His son Joseph Zanca and his wife Randeen Zanca, his grandchildren Brendan Gallagher and his partner Olivia Boulton, and Robert and Anthony Zanca. Frannie was born July 26, 1941 to John and Eva (Hubert) Zanca of Marlborough, MA. 

He dedicated his life to serving the City of Marlborough as the Assistant Commissioner of Public Works for 40 years. Frannie was a beloved member of his community, and his contributions were numerous.

Frannie had a deep love for his hometown, and took great pride in his involvement with various projects. Notably, he held a special place in his heart for the Gazebo at the Walker Building , Ghiloni Park , and the Christmas tree on the Common. 

Beyond his professional life, Frannie was an avid Hunter and outdoorsman. He cherished his time with his family at the beach from Hampton, NH  to Delray, Florida  to York, ME where he built a beautiful  home for his wife, children and grandchildren. Frannie and Rhea formed many long lasting friendships while spending winters in Delray Beach, Fla. Rhea and Frannie were married for 60 years and will now be together forever in heaven.

      Frannie loved Golfing with his grandson Brendan and watching the Red Sox. He had many hobbies that brought him joy, including gardening, wood carving birds, and especially growing his beautiful roses.  Frannie was so proud of his grandchildren Robert , Anthony and Brendan. He loved the many Disney trips, taking them to parades, fireworks at the beach, Zanca Reunions, and sitting down with them to eat Rheas Pasta, Sauce and meatballs.

     Frannie will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his siblings Louis and his wife Lorraine Zanca, John “Jack” and Sheila  Zanca, David Zanca and Joanne (Zanca) Menard. In addition, his brother in law Roger and Judy Messier and many nieces and nephews. Frannie was preceded in death by his parents John and Eva (Hubert) Zanca, his loving wife Rhea (Messier) Zanca, Roland and Norma Zanca, Donald and Winifred Zanca, Patricia Zanca, Nephews Daniel Zanca and Stephen Zanca, as well as Nieces Beth (Zanca) Foley, Nancy Zanca and Linda (Zanca) Demers. Paul and Maxine Messier, Gerry Messier, Ronald and Mary Messier. 

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date for Frannie. We will cherish the memories, his smile and laughter, and his dedication to his family. His legacy will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him
