Freda P. (McLaughlin) Richardson

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Freda Pauline Richardson (née McLaughlin) of Kittery Point, Maine on April 26, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on January 25, 1930, the second child of Prudence (née Betts) and John McLaughlin.

Freda was raised in Waltham, spending time with her two sisters Bertha and Faith, lifelong friend Janey Nagle, and her grandmother Annie. She attended Waltham High School, where in her junior year she met the love of her life Gerald Alfred Richardson. After graduation and with her lifelong love of caring for others, she attended the New England Deaconess Nursing School, becoming a Registered Nurse in January of 1951.

Freda and Gerald continued dating through college and married on September 8, 1951. They raised their three beautiful children in Waltham, moving to Concord, Massachusetts in 1970. Every summer was spent with their children and later grandchildren at their cottage in Lovell, Maine. After Gerald retired, they settled in Kittery Point, enjoying many scenic drives on the coastal roads of New England. They were able to travel throughout the world, always making friends wherever they went. During their life together, Freda and Gerry shared much laughter and joy, through good times and bad they remained each other’s strength and constant companions.

Freda had a beautiful laugh and never an ill word to say, to know her was to love her and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Freda is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, her older sister Bertha Studivan of Hillsboro, New Hampshire, son Glen and his wife Cindy of Stow, Massachusetts, son Vaughan and his wife Linda of York, Maine, daughter Leigh-Anne Richardson Dufour of Hampton, New Hampshire, nine grandchildren, Audra, Sara, Blair, Drew, Kirstin, Christi-Anne, Morgan, Jerry, and Matthew, their spouses, and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
