Gaetano "Guy" E. Bottiglio

Guy Edward Bottiglio of York, Maine was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully on Thursday July 21, 2022.

Guy was preceded in death in January by his wife of 61 years, Peggy. Together, they had four children, Susan (Mitchell), Teresa, Aldo (predeceased) & wife Cindy, and Paul & wife Janine. Guy & Peggy have 2 wonderful grandchildren, Tyler Mitchell & wife Cecilia and Jessica (Mitchell) Gonzalez & husband Alberto.

Guy was a graduate of Matignon High School, in Cambridge, MA, and in 1968 received a BS in Business from Northeastern University. He also earned a master’s degree in Liberal Arts from Boston University. Guy had a long, successful career working with computers starting in the early days with IBM punch card equipment and later moving along to Raytheon and Digital Equipment Corp, among others. He was personally fulfilled by teaching night classes for adult learners at Northeastern University for almost 20 years.

Guy and Peggy were married in April of 1960 and honeymooned in Montreal. They moved into a starter house in Billerica, MA, then to Somerville, and then to Medford where they raised their 4 children. Years later, in their dotage, Guy and Peggy moved in with their daughters, Susan and Terri in York, ME where they had vacationed for years.

Those who knew him will all say that Guy was blessed with a high level of intelligence and a burning, dead-pan wit. He always had a different way of seeing the world and made those around him laugh. Although he did not put his emotions on public display, he was deeply affected by his father’s passing in World War II, the premature death of his son Aldo, and Peg’s passing in January. He received comfort from his life-long Catholic faith.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, July 26th in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, MA, social distancing and masks are recommended for all who attend.
