George H. Barry Jr. Obituary

George H. Barry, 75, a resident of York Beach, Maine died suddenly at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Monday, December 22, 2025. He was born in Boston, MA on April 29, 1950, he was the son of the late Helen P. Barry and George H. Barry Sr.

 

George grew up in Medford, MA and was a graduate of Medford High School. After high school he served his country in the Vietnam War. Years later he received his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College in Milton, MA. George proudly served as a police officer in the Wakefield Police Department for 32 years. After retirement he served as a detail officer in Wakefield, Billerica and Bedford, MA until finally retiring for good in 2021.

 

In 2001 he received the George Hanna Award for Bravery for his actions in the arrest of the perpetrator involved in the Wakefield Office Shootings that took place at Edgewater Technology, the day after Christmas of 2000. He also received numerous commendations and awards including the Key To the City of Medford, his hometown, for numerous acts of bravery while on the job. George was a devoted husband and friend . He enjoyed spending time with his large family and his many friends. He especially loved to travel and cruise with his wife and best friend of 45 years, Nancy.

 

He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Ring) Barry and the father of Jennifer Barry. He was the brother of the late Christine (Barry) Asay. George was the beloved brother in law to the late Ellen (Ring ) Dushane and her husband David of North Andover, Kathryn (Ring) Guay and her husband Bill of Kennebunkport Maine, Martha (Ring) Richard and her husband Pete of Cape Neddick Maine, Paula Ring of Cape Neddick Maine, Carol (Ring) Arsenault and her husband Craig of York Maine, Robert (Bob) Ring and his partner Nicole Maybe of Amesbury Mass and Kristine (Ring) Janicki and her husband Davin of Dorchester Ma. He was also the beloved son in law of Evelyn Ring and her late husband Robert P. Ring. He was survived by many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews.

 

George will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
