Irene T. (Tibbetts) Downing

York Beach, Maine-Irene Tibbetts Downing, Age 97yr 3mo, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018.  Born October 26, 1920 in Las Animas, CO, daughter of George Walter and Marguerite (Weare) Tibbetts of York Beach, ME; graduated from York High School, Class of 1938; and married Charles Donald Downing on July 15, 1939.  She worked in home raising four wonderful children; was a Girl Scout Leader; a member of Cape Neddick Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and later a member of the Ogunquit Baptist Church.  She enjoyed her family, crafts and knitting, playing the piano and especially her grandchildren, all boys!  She and her husband traveled every State except Hawaii and all over Canada.  She leaves her husband of 78 years, Charles Donald Downing of York Beach, ME; daughter Diane (Terry) McRoberts of Minnetonka, MN; sons, Jere (Barbara) Downing of Newton, NH, Lawrence (Julie) Downing of Wells, ME, and Edmund "Skip" (Susan) Downing of Lebanon, NH; five grandsons, Jeffrey, Michael, Kenny, Charles, and Seth; great-grandson Charlie; several cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters Barbara Tibbetts, Roberta (Richard) White, and Phyllis (Fred) Hilton and grandson Alan Downing.  She was loved dearly by her family who morn her loss, but rejoice in the knowledge that she is at home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Services:Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 26th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine. A Memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 27th in the Ogunquit Baptist Church. Burial will be private in the First Parish Cemetery.
