In Loving Memory of James (Jimmy) P. Manos
Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend
1951 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) P. Manos—a devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend to many.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to the late James and Yvonne Manos and raised in North Andover, Jimmy was a1969 graduate of North Andover High School. He pursued further studies at several colleges, always curious and eager to learn. But it was in 1972 that he found his calling, when he and his brother Mike opened the York Beach Dairy Bar in York Beach, Maine. For 54 years, Jimmy was a familiar face to generations of beachgoers at Long Sands Beach, serving not just ice cream and food, but creating fun and fond memories for so many.
His work extended beyond the Dairy Bar to the building and management of York Beach Cottages, an extension of the family business. A master of many trades, Jimmy could fix or build just about anything. He loved the ocean, fishing and living at York Beach. He was an avid reader, an excellent cook, a passionate card player, a sports fan, an animal lover and he had a true green thumb. Music was an important part of his life, with everything from country to rock and roll on his playlist over the years—Jimmy Buffett always holding a special place in his heart.
But more than any skill or hobby, what defined Jimmy was his generous nature and the deep love he held for his family and friends. He was a devoted son, big brother, uncle and great uncle, and a steadfast friend. He celebrated life fully—always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or raise a glass in good company.
Jimmy lived life on his own terms, with a big personality and a quiet strength that made the world a better place for those lucky enough to know him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he has helped create.
Jimmy is survived by his brother, Michael Manos and his wife Patricia; sister Patricia Ghikas and her husband David; nephew Michael Manos, his wife, Nicole and their children, Stella and Owen; niece Christine Ruggeri, her husband Michael and their children Michael Cameron and Jacob; niece Olivia Ghikas and her husband Benjamin Young and niece Madeleine Ghikas.
A celebration of his life will be held in his honor, with details to be announced at a later date.
