Jeffrey "Jeff" H. Berger, 65, born on September 7, 1960, passed away on January 17, 2026, at home, in Cape Neddick, Maine.
Jeff earned a degree in engineering physics from the University of Maine at Orono, laying the foundation for a career shaped by curiosity and precision. He was also a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega (“ATO”) fraternity. His academic achievements reflected his lifelong dedication to learning and problem-solving, he went on to excel as Director of Microwave Device Sales at Sumitomo Electric.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Judith U. Berger; his sons Jacob H. Berger and fiancée Cameryn Lackey of Tampa, Florida; and Luke L. Berger and wife Alexa of Hingham, Massachusetts. He took great pride in his grandsons Henry L. Berger and Daniel P. Berger of Hingham.
Jeff’s family roots remained strong throughout his life. He is also survived by his mother Jean Godnick of Rutland, Vermont; sister Katie Saunders of Middlebury, Vermont; stepmother Hilda Berger of Melbourne Beach, Florida; and her children Lisa and Jimmy Mumford of Vermont; Mike and Bill Berger of Florida; Judy and Mike Barone of Vermont; and Gary and Patty Godnick of New York.
He shared close bonds with his extended family through marriage as well: sister-in-law Jane Buxbaum and husband David of Newburyport, Massachusetts; brother-in-law James Underhill and wife Joanne of Nashua, New Hampshire; brother-in-law John Underhill and wife Gia of Westford, Massachusetts; sister-in-law Cristina Underhill of Nashua; along with 18 beloved nieces and nephews.
Jeff was predeceased by his father Lawrence Berger; father-in-law Hugh Underhill; mother-in-law Norma Underhill; stepfather Edward Godnick; brother-in-law Joseph Underhill; and stepbrother Mark Godnick.
An avid skier and boater throughout his life, Jeff found joy in the mountains during winter months and on the water during warmer seasons. These passions brought him both peace and adventure—experiences he often shared with those closest to him.
Jeff was a lifetime member of the Rutland Jewish Center in Rutland, Vermont.
