John J. Pooler, 59, of York, Maine, died in his home, peacefully, of unknown causes on January
13, 2024.
He was born on November 17, 1964 in Waterville, ME to Patricia L. Thomas and Frank J.
Pooler. John attended Waterville, Maine Schools. As a teenager he spent lots of time
adventuring the country with his Uncle Wally. At 19, he moved to Kennebunk, Maine where he
worked with Roscoe at a landscaping company. Soon after he moved to York, Maine where he
worked at Mimmo’s restaurant as a cook. After this, for a great portion of his life he worked in
paving and construction and in his later life he owned his own land maintenance business.
John, a die-hard Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy fan, enjoyed watching and playing golf,
downhill skiing in Maine and Colorado, fishing, and boating. He lived a simple life and seemed
to know everyone. He was always working and would help anyone with the snap of a finger. In
his downtime you would often find him driving his truck around town.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank J. Pooler, his grandfather John Thomas, and his
grandmother Jean Cummings.
He is survived by his son, Joe Pooler (Jocelynn) of Valparaiso, Indiana, his daughter Samantha
Pooler (Celal) of York, Maine, his mother Patricia Thomas (Roscoe) of Magnolia, Arkansas, his
step-grandmother Thelma Thomas, his sister Heidi Gleason (Dennis) of Oakland, Maine, his
brother Chris Lavoie (Tami) of Wells, Maine, his Uncle John W. Thomas, many aunts, nieces,
and cousins, his close friends Gator, Mary Anne, Pierre, Dana, and Melissa, and his beloved dog
Khloe.
