John "Jay" Fagone Obituary

John Jay Fagone 57, formerly of East Boston passed away on 4/22 surrounded by his family.

Jay was known by many as a great storyteller, he loved to share stories and make people laugh. He enjoyed parties and entertaining people. He was a talented artist and builder. He started in the construction business when he was young. Working with his father, remodeling and building homes was his work and a passion.

Jay spent his childhood in East Boston, he loved the city!  Raised by John and Lillian, he was part of a large Italian family with many cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, Gerald and Angelina whom he adored.  There were many parties with lots of food, family and great friends too! He graduated from Dom Savio High School in 1984 and began working in the construction trade.

Jay married Karen in 1988, they were married 17 years and had 3 Children Michael, Petra and Samantha. This was a crazy busy time in his life, but so much fun! His kids all have a little piece of his love and talent for art, music and of course story telling! He loved to paint murals on their bedroom walls or teach them how to build something. Although he could not sing, ha-ha, he would sing with Samantha, and he loved to dance! Always joking and pranking with Petra and playing games with Michael.

Jay also leaves behind 2 grandchildren Isabella and Vincent. A Stepsister Andrea, his nieces Erika and Kaylee and many cousins, in-laws and friends.

Jay struggled with anxiety and addiction most of his life. He fought hard to be sober and had his ups and downs. His mom was always by his side even in the worst of times. His health declined greatly in the past few years. On his last days he made amends with his family and left us with peace in our hearts and I am sure he left with peace knowing his family was there.

Addiction is a family disease; the whole family gets sick. Everyone loses and has to heal.  Addicts fight to stay sober everyday of their lives.  “You cannot save people you can just love them.”
