Kinley Gregg Obituary

Kinley Gregg of York, Maine, passed away at home on Monday, January 12, 2026. Born on May 28, 1963 in Urbana, Illinois, to Meredith Bubul Gregg and John Robert Gregg, Jr., she moved at an early age with her family to York, Maine, where she spent the majority of her life. Kinley attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated summa cum laude from Skidmore College with a B.A. in American Studies.

Kinley was a woman of many interests and abilities, excelling at puzzles and wordplay, and deeply knowledgeable about any number of topics, including, among others, architectural preservation and local history. She was also an accomplished competitive rower, participating in races throughout New England over several decades and harboring a particular affection for the thrill of open ocean racing.

In recent years, she served three terms as a York select board member, and volunteered her time as meeting camera operator between terms. Kinley was a stalwart advocate for the citizens of York, combining a commitment to extensive research and a fastidious attention to detail with an unyielding integrity and devotion to public service. She also served on the York Historic District Commission, the York Charter Commission, and acted as a proprietor for the Portsmouth Athenaeum.

Throughout her life, Kinley was a familiar sight about town, chatting with local friends and neighbors, taking extended walks with one of her many beloved and doted upon dogs, or enjoying a meal at Rick’s. Witty, a genuine original in her thinking, and truly caring - her singular spirit will be missed.

Kinley is survived by her mother Meredith Gregg of Madison, Indiana, her brother John Robert Gregg III and his wife Susan Wolf of Winchester, Massachusetts, her brother David Gregg and his partner Cherie Broussard of Eliot, Maine, and her nieces Audrey Gregg and Gina Gregg.

A memorial service will be held in York in the coming months.
