L. Michael Bruno Jr. Obituary

Louis Michael “Mike” Bruno, Jr. of York, ME passed away on May 23, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lawrence, MA on March 3, 1951 to Louis M. Bruno, Sr. and Catherine M. (Clifford) Bruno. He was educated in the Lawrence school system, attending Central Catholic High School before moving to Andover, MA, and graduating from Andover High School in 1969. It was at Andover High that he met the love of his life, Susan (Caldwell) Bruno. After high school he attended Norwich University where he excelled in both football and hockey, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Norwich in 1996 with his 1970 football team. After his freshman year at Norwich he proposed to Sue and they were married in June of 1973, settling in Andover, MA where they raised their two daughters.

Mike spent most of his working life as a distributions and logistics manager for Wang Laboratories, ComputerVision, and Sun Microsystems. However, he also enjoyed various side ventures as a DJ, bartender, golf equipment salesman, and security guard.

An avid golfer, Mike found any chance he could to play a round or stop at the driving range. He went so far as to have a putting green professionally installed in the front yard and would drive golf balls over the back yard fence of the house in Andover. He was a fan of Boston sports and loved watching the Patriots and Bruins with his family. He was an avid fan of military history and aircraft, never missing an opportunity to attend an air show or talk for hours about World War II.

He and Sue moved to York, Maine in 1999 and soon after joined the York Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the department for nearly two decades, during which time he held various roles including fire corporation president, Ropes Rescue Specialist, and EMT. He eventually achieved the rank of lieutenant prior to retiring in 2017.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Susan J. (Caldwell) Bruno, his two daughters, Karen Osper of Uxbridge, MA, and Amanda Bruno Roberts of Cape Neddick, ME, as well as his two favorite sons-in-law Jay Osper and Mark Roberts. He was blessed with five amazing grandchildren Caroline Bruno, Spenser, Samantha, Connor, and Parker Osper.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law Richard Bednar of Hampton, NH, as well as nieces Catherine Bednar and her son Desmond of Ipswich, MA and Charlotte Bednar of Ipswich, MA. He was predeceased by both parents, his brother James C. Bruno and sister Ann Louise (Bruno) Bednar.
