It is with great sadness that the family of Laura Alexandra Stiles Greenlaw, 55, of York, ME, announces her passing. After nearly a decade of battling she made her final transition in the early morning hours on January 25, 2025, succumbing to the toll colon cancer, MS and most recently liver cancer took on her poor body.
Laura was born on December 4, 1969, to Robert and Judith R. Stiles and spent most of her childhood living on Whipple Road in Kittery, ME. She attended local schools, including R. W. Traip Academy from 1984-1985, graduating Class of 1989 at Marshwood High School in Eliot, ME. Later furthering her education at Hesser College in Portsmouth, NH.
The New England seacoast was always special to Laura. Although she did live in the Richmond, Virginia area for several years, she returned to New England living in places like Dover, South Berwick and ultimately making York Village her home.
She enjoyed cheering for New England’s professional sports teams, cherished time alone at the beach either on Long Sands or York Harbor beaches and she loved cats. Time spent together with family and friends was important to Laura. Our family cannot think about Laura and not be reminded of CAMP on Barker’s Pond in Dayton, ME. She once wrote: ‘Only place things make sense. The memories take me back to what life is all about.’
Laura was predeceased by her mother, Judith R. Stiles. She is survived by her father, Robert Stiles and her daughter, Alexandra (and husband Stephen) Clermont.
May we always remember Laura was a beautiful soul with a huge heart, who would help anyone if she could. She always saw the best in people. She was so intelligent with such a humorous personality, often using humor to cope on the darkest of days. Her positive disposition and strong will (or one could say stubborn streak) attributed to Laura’s warrior-like strength she drew upon while living her life when others might not have been able to face all that she did with as much courage and will to keep going. Her radiant smile lit up any room! She gave some of the BEST hugs (we would joke those might be genetic).
No funeral services will be held as it was Laura’s wish for cremation and her ashes will be spread in a very special location at a later date. Please feel free to share your favorite memories or offer your condolences to the family here on the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home website. For now, Laura’s Facebook page will remain open, and all are welcome to post memories and final words to her there.
Loved ones may leave this world but they never leave our hearts. While our hearts mourn her loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. May she rest in peace.
Laura, we will carry your memory in our hearts forever. You will be dearly missed little one!
