Lawrence H. Bridges Obituary

York, Maine- Lawrence H. Bridges, 85 a resident of York, Maine and past resident of Southwest Harbor, Maine passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 in Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine. 

He was born January 19, 1936 in York, Maine a son of the late Charles D. and Helen (Shepherd) Bridges Sr. He attended York High School, lettering in all sports and graduated in 1955. 

 Larry started his Military career while in high school with the US Marine Corps Reserve after high school he entered active duty in the  US Army, 82nd Airborne Division, which he was extremely proud to be a part of.  

Later he joined US Coast Guard thinking it would give him more family time, unfortunately sea sickness was no fun and later joined the US Air Force which proved to be a good fit.  

Military life took him to many places in the USA and overseas. Four years in Alaska was a dream assignment and three years in Italy was as well. While stationed in Italy the whole family was able to visit all the sites in Europe. He also served tours in Vietnam & Pakistan. Larry finished his Military service at 24 years.  

A 30 year second career was that of an Electrician for Acadia National Park, a rewarding and enjoyable job. 

 Some of his hobbies were motocross racing, skiing, hockey, marathon running with vacations, his favorite. He loved riding his Harley all over Maine realizing what a truly beautiful State he was from.      

He leaves his wife of 63 yrs, Sandra (Simonatis) Bridges; a son Mark L. Bridges of  Irving, TX; a daughter Robin L. Bridges of Hallowell, ME; a brother Charles D. Bridges Jr. and his wife Candy of York, ME;  a sister-in-law Joan Howard of Virginia; several outstanding nieces and nephews. A brother Richard S. Bridges predeceased him. He also leaves his dog Molly and cantankerous Parrot Higgins.  

A Graveside Service with Military Honors for family and friends will be held at 1pm on Monday, May 10th in the First Parish Cemetery, York, Maine. 

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
