Kittery, Maine- Leonard H. Olson, 82 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in Webster at Rye Nursing Home with his son by his side. He was born July 25, 1941 in North Adams, MA son of the late Harold L. and Phyllis J. (Bunting) Olson.
He is pre-deceased by his loving wife Nancy L. (Stodden) Olson of 37 years. Leonard graduated from Drury High School in North Adams, MA in 1959. He was a life member of the Carpenters Union and traveled extensively working at power plants as a Millwright. Leonard worked weekends at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock MA for many winters so his daughters could learn to Ski. Leonard and his wife Nancy owned and operated several hotels on Hampton Beach, NH. He worked at Malden Mills in Methuen, MA for many years before retiring.
After retirement he worked his dream job as a bridge attendant on the Sarah Long Bridge and the Memorial Bridge spanning Kittery, ME and Portsmouth, NH. Leonard had many interests. He was an avid model train enthusiasts, an animal lover and held a great appreciation for music. Leonard played the accordion, tuba and the washboard. Leonard and his late wife enjoyed camping on Orr’s island Harpswell, ME.
Leonard was a people person. He loved to talk to people and reminisce about the good ‘ol days on construction jobs. He was a bit of a jokester and kept his sense of humor enlightening people along his path throughout life.
He leaves behind a son Erik L. Olson and his wife Alexandra E. (White) Olson of York, ME and three daughters Lisa M. Olson of Williamstown, MA, Leann K. (Olson) O’Brien and her husband William J. O’Brien of Adams, MA and Karin Olson. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Gary A. Olson of North Adams, MA and Robert W. Olson of Oldsmar FL.
A Celebration of Life will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made to a local Animal Shelter or End 68 Hours of Hunger. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine is directing arrangements.
