April 9, 1938 ~ December 29, 2020 (age 82)

Obituary

CUSACK, Edward J., Fire Lt., formerly of Allston and Framingham, MA, passed unexpectedly but peacefully on December 29, 2020 Edward, or Buddy to family and friends, was a devoted husband to Elaine for 58 years, and loving father to Michelle Lally and her husband Brian of Dorchester, Debbie Nisbet and her husband Matt of Warwick, RI, Karen Cusack of Orlando, Florida, Janet Sullivan and her husband Jack of Franklin, and Donna Morin and her husband Dave of Raynham. Buddy also leaves 8 beloved grandchildren, Matt, Michael and Cam Morin, Jack, Connor and Megan Sullivan, Sophia Lally and Tim Perkins. He was also a wonderful brother to his sisters, Carole Spezzano and her husband Richard, Nancy Gray and her husband Phil, and Diane Barone. As the oldest of 55 grandchildren, Buddy had countless cousins, nieces and nephews.

If you’ve read this far, you’ve figured out that Buddy was a ladies’ man. Surrounded by three sisters growing up, he then went on to have 5 daughters. It’s no wonder he made Grove Hall Ladder Co. 23 of the Boston Fire Department his second home. Buddy served as a Boston Firefighter for over 30 years, where he was known as “Fast Eddie,” which we are certain had nothing to do with his speed on the job. He was quick with a joke and long with a story; if you had 5 minutes or an hour, Buddy had a story for you. He always greeted you with a smile, no one was more upbeat or happy to see you than Buddy. That positivity and optimism fueled him on the job as well, where he earned the Patrick J. Kennedy Medal of Honor for his quick action under difficult conditions in saving the life of a young child in a house fire.

After living in Framingham for 47 years, Buddy and Elaine sold the family home and spent summers in York Beach, Maine and winters between Warwick, RI and Marco Island, FL. He enjoyed every minute of his retirement with golfing, beach days, happy hour, and being surrounded by a ready audience of family and friends for his latest tale.

A Funeral Mass will be held privately Saturday, January 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in St. Brendan’s Church, Gallivan Blvd, Dorchester, MA. There will be a Celebration of Life service in York Beach, Maine at a future date when everyone can gather together.
