Lucien R. Potvin

 “Big Lou” passed away peacefully at his home in York Maine on Saturday, June 6th, 2026.  Lucien Ronaldo Potvin was born in Manchester, NH  on January 31, 1934. He was the son of Blanche and Wilfred Potvin of Goffs Falls, NH.  Lou had two brother’s, Wilfred (Red) and Gerard who predeceased him.

Big Lou was a Navy Veteran, enlisting when he was 17, serving 4 years as a Radioman 1st class during the Korean War. After his service, he returned to the Manchester area where he met and married Jeanette (Tasis) and over the years raised 8 children.  

Lou was hardworking. He started in the trucking industry at Yale Transportation in Nashua, NH. The family moved to Nashua for a short while eventually moving back to Manchester where he got a job at AuClair Transportation in 1965. He would stay there for 16 years working his way up from driver to terminal manager.

When Lou was not working, he would spend his weekends with family, relatives, friends at  the “lake” for water skiing, barbecuing and just plain old fun!  He loved to sit in his chair, watching everyone enjoy the days.  

Lou and Jeanette separated and he moved to Maine. This is where he met Carol Goodwin of York Maine and they married in 1981. Carol had two children Vicki  and Wayne (deceased).

Lou worked his whole life in the trucking industry. He was an owner – operator and company driver eventually retiring from Irving Oil Terminals in Portsmouth, NH.

Carol and Lou were a fixture around York and you never saw one without the other.  You could find them most days at 1pm at Norma’s Restaurant, McDonalds in Kittery on Sundays, local yard sales, or taking rides along York Beach. They were an integral part of “Think Again”, the group that tried to stop the York Toll Booth from moving. They were the ultimate couple, who brought happiness to wherever and whoever they met.

Carol passed in February 2025 and Lou was devastated.  He had lost his best friend. He kept going though and was strong until the end, sending out friend requests on Facebook the week before he passed.

Lou is survived by his children Linda (Jean) DuCharme of New Ipswich, NH, David (Betty) Potvin of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Michael (deceased) (Julie) Potvin of Strafford, NH, Gerry (Nancy) Potvin of Goffstown, NH, Richard #1 son, (Paula) Potvin of Cape Neddick, ME, Roger (Monique) Potvin of Melbourne, FL, Diane Uggiconi of Brant Rock, MA, Lucien Potvin of Charleston, ME, and Vicki (Tony) Muscarello of York, Maine.  There are also many grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved each and every one of them, plus all of his and Carol’s nieces and nephews.

There will be no services.  “Big Lou”  requested his ashes and his golden retriever  Kasie’s ashes be spread at his favorite fishing hole.  Donations may be made to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, P.O. Box ##808, 110 Chapin Road, Hudson, MA  01749 – 0808 or Info@ygrr.org in Lou’s memory.
