Margaret "Margie" H. Bumen, 78 of Shore Road, passed away quietly on Monday, August 7, 2023 in York Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born September 6, 1944 in Phillipsburg, NJ, daughter of the late Michael F. and Margaret (Cullen) Hornyak. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Joseph F. Bumen, and a son, Joseph Todd Bumen, of Cape Neddick, Maine.
Marge graduated in 1962 from North Hunterdon Regional High School in New Jersey and from Moore College of Art in 1966. She got her master’s degree from Pratt Institute and then started working for Dansk where she became a VP, later serving in the same position at Lenox. She finished her career at Cole Haan. During these years, she and her husband Joe started a store fixture business in York, Maine which ultimately became Maine Wood & Design, operating for over 40 years.
Marge & Joe designed and built a lovely home in Maine where they have lived since 1981. In recent decades, Marge got great joy from her beloved dogs, both Bernese Mountain Dogs and Leonbergers. She was a long-time member of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Nashoba Valley (“BMDCNV”) where she used her considerable talents to help the club. An amazing mentor & team builder, she was recently described as the Heartbeat of the Club. Marge ,was always interested in people, made everyone feel special and important. She listened, she really listened. Connecting people was her joy.
A period of visitation will be held from 11am to 12:30pm on Monday, August 14th in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine with a Graveside Service to follow at 1pm in the First Parish Cemetery, 180 York St., York, Maine.
