Maria "Rita" Wiersma Obituary

On October 25th, 2024, Rita Wiersma took flight to a new adventure. Born in the Netherlands, Rita's life was shaped by her experiences, including living through the difficult times of World War II. Despite those challenges, she emerged as a vibrant spirit, whose passion for traveling and exploring the world brought her endless joy. She embraced life with enthusiasm, whether she was dancing, sewing, indulging in her favorite chocolates, painting, or expressing her unique style through fashion.

Rita had a deep love for animals and held a special place in her heart for her late beloved bird, Pookie, whose companionship brought her immense joy. She also cherished her family and friends, finding great happiness in their time together. With her playful spirit and genuine kindness, she always uplifted those around her, spreading warmth and joy wherever she went. Rita had a remarkable talent for transforming spaces into beautiful atmospheres; her eye for design was exceptional, and even in her later years, she showcased her strength and persistence by rearranging large pieces of furniture with ease.

As we celebrate Rita's remarkable life, let us honor the joy and inspiration she brought to us all. Her spirit of adventure, creativity, and love for family and friends will continue to shine brightly in our hearts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the Pinnacle staff, her special caretaker and friend, Alison, as well as Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate support and care.
