Marjorie Theresa (Deeney) Lynch, sister, mother, aunt, cousin, grandmother and cherished friend, passed away at age 83 on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 near York, ME with family at her side.
Marjorie lived a full and vital life, embodying the philosophy: "This is it!” Born in Malden, MA, Marjorie received her BS in Education from Salem State College and later her MA in Education from Cambridge College. Her multifaceted career spanned education and arts administration. In the early 1960’s, she was a teacher of first and second grades in Woburn MA and the US Naval Base in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia. After raising two children in the late 1960’s and 70’s with her (then) husband William Lynch, she embarked on a new career as an Art Gallery Manager for the John Stobart Gallery in Boston where she had many happy years. After living in the North End of Boston for close to two decades, she moved to York, ME where she opened her own gallery, The Maritime Gallery of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, NH. Continuing to support artists, she took a particular interest in setting up Plein Air workshops for prominent local artists throughout New England and abroad. Family was paramount to Marjorie and she was unwaveringly committed to her daughters Allison and Justine. Marjorie was also an advocate of progressive political causes and enhanced possibilities for all people. After much international travel visiting her family across the globe and with strong Irish roots, she decided to live in Ireland part time over 10 years where she also enjoyed working in an art gallery in Lahinch, Co. Clare. Throughout her life, she shared a joie de vivre, a transcendent spirituality, and commitment to friends and family.
The daughter of Irish immigrants, Ellen Nora (McCloskey) Deeney and Peter Deeney (both deceased) of Co. Donegal, Ireland, Marjorie and her twin sister, Patricia (deceased) were born in Malden, MA on May 31, 1941. She and Patricia were the younger sisters to Maureen (Deeney) Hotelling (deceased) of Lindenhurst, NY. She is the former wife of William Lynch (deceased) of Jamaica Plain, MA. She is survived by daughter Allison Lynch and Jacques Cornell along with her two grandsons, Jasper and Ronan, as well as daughter Justine Lynch of York, ME and cousin Mary (Deeney) and Mattie Henry of Scituate, MA. She is also survived by several cousins in Co. Donegal, Ireland and nieces and nephews on the East Coast of the US.
