Marvin Swain age 76, of York, ME, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on August 30, 1949 at Portsmouth Hospital, he was the son of Trafton and Anstress “Anne” Swain. He attended York High School and Central Maine Technical College where he earned an associate’s degree. Marvin married Deborah Hanson of Saco in August, 1969, and together they shared 56 years of marriage and built a life centered on family and their church. He was a lifelong member of York Street Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. An avid outdoorsman, he loved his many trips hunting and fishing with the guys. Later in life he fell in love with the game of golf and became a member of York Golf and Tennis where he enjoyed many good times with his wife and friends. He was known as “everyone’s friend” and was a beloved figure in the Town of York. He was a dedicated employee for many years and ended his career as the Superintendent of Public Works.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; his children, Amy Burley and her husband Robert of York, Lisa Swain Scott and her husband Brett of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Justin Burley and his wife Amber, and Amelia Burley; his sibling, Debbie Adams; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, March 7 at 11 a.m. at York Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research at www.michaeljfox.org in his memory.
