M. Jane Philbrick, 75, of Hickory Lane, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 8, 1949, in New Rochelle, NY, Jane was the daughter of the late Oscar Stanley “Stoney” Stonesifer and Harriett Mendenhall Stonesifer. She was a proud graduate of Upsala College, where she earned a degree in history. Professionally, Jane worked for many years with the MountainGuard Program, where she contributed to insuring ski areas across North America, a field she dedicated herself to with passion and expertise.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, F. Hugh Philbrick as well as her two children, Scott Philbrick of Silver Spring, MD, and Rebecca McNaughton of West Harrison, NY; as well as her cherished granddaughter, Hailey. Jane and Hugh were also predeceased by their “third child,” Missy, the family’s beloved black lab, who blessed their lives for 17 years and was the mother of 16 black and yellow puppies.
Cooking and entertaining for loved ones, particularly during the holidays, was one of Jane’s greatest joys. She also had a love for travel, especially her adventures with her sister, Barbara Stonesifer Terzopoulos, throughout Europe.
Calling hours to celebrate Jane’s life will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, December 7th, at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine. Burial will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to cancer research or a charity of one’s choice.
Jane will be remembered for her warmth, her love of family, her sense of humor, and her boundless hospitality, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
