Michelle duPont Knight
August 21, 1951 - March 10, 2026
Devout mother and community member Michelle Knight passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease.
Michelle was born in Southbridge, MA on August 21, 1951 to Raymond and Phyllis duPont. She grew up in Natchitoches, LA, and attended Louisiana State University.
She and her mother visited York, ME in the summer of 1976 and decided to stay. She worked as a bank teller and became well known in the community for her southern charm.
In 1981 Michelle married Richard ("Rick") Knight, Jr. and soon after had two sons, Richard ("Ricky") and John. Michelle was very involved in the York school system during the time her sons attended the schools, often volunteering at various school events and activities. Her greatest dream was to be a good mother and her life exemplified the accomplishment of that goal.
In 1999, Michelle opened Knight's Quilt Shop, another long-time dream of hers. The quilt shop was her pride and joy, and she very much enjoyed helping customers and seeing so many old and new friends as part of that chapter of her life. She operated the quilt shop until the fall of 2020, when her battle with dementia was starting.
She passed away peacefully with family by her side.
Michelle is predeceased by her husband, Richard Knight, Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Knight III and John Knight, their wives, Kristina Knight and Tessa Knight, and her grandchildren, Richard, Alden, Noah, and Hazel.
There will be visitation hours at Lucas Eaton Funeral Home on Monday, March 30th from 4pm to 6pm.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Knight’s Quilt Shop in Cape Neddick on April 25th from 10am to 2pm.
