Norma Wotton Obituary

York Beach, ME – Norma Beaudoin Wotton passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family - she was 86. Norma had faced a period of declining health with grace, and her final days were filled with love and presence.

Born in Rochester, NH on March 15, 1939, Norma was the seventh of eight children of Raymond and Hazel Beaudoin. She was predeceased by her sister Brenda Beaudoin Dumont and brothers Raymond, Robert, and Norman Beaudoin, all of Rochester. She is survived by three loving sisters: Paula Doisneau of Manomet, MA; Marlene Blair of Wells, ME; and Janet Hescock of Bethany, CT.

Norma graduated from Spaulding High School in 1957 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1961. It was at Spaulding where she started dating the love of her life, Rodney C. Wotton. From high school sweethearts to college classmates, they graduated together and married the same year. They were inseparable during their 60 years of marriage and until Rodney’s passing in 2021—an absence that deeply impacted Norma in her final years.

A lifelong educator, Norma began her teaching career in physical education at Central School in South Berwick, ME and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, NH. Later, she taught biology at her alma mater, Spaulding High School, from 1978 until her retirement in 1994. She also coached high school cheerleading for nearly two decades at Marshwood and Spaulding High Schools. Throughout Rodney’s coaching career, Norma was a constant presence—officially the “water girl,” but unofficially his most trusted “assistant coach”.

Norma and Rodney’s shared love of sports and family was reflected in the lives of their children. Together, they raised Peter, Wendi, and Jeffrey in a home filled with athletic passion, beach walks, and unwavering support. Norma especially cherished her time at York Beach, golfing with Rod, and spending meaningful moments with family and close friends.

She is survived by her children: Peter and his wife Kathy of Dover, NH; Wendi Cryan and her husband Tom of York, ME; and Jeffrey and his wife Cheryl of Byfield, MA. Norma was a proud grandmother to Meghan, Molly, Jake, Kiana, Malia, Nicole, and Jackson—and was overjoyed to meet her first great-grandchild, Kade, before her passing. Her six “grand-dogs” were also among her cherished companions.

The Wotton family would like to thank the many caregivers who supported Norma over the past year and a half. Special gratitude goes to her In-home caregivers in York Beach Maine and in Byfield Massachusetts, to the teams at Watson Fields in Dover, Cornerstone Hospice, Care Dimensions Hospice, the neighbors of Sea Mist Lane, and the volunteer firefighters who were always there when needed.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday June 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the First Parish Cemetery (180 York St., York Maine) where Norma will reunite with Rodney once again. A Memorial Visitation will follow from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road in York.
