On Wednesday, January 27th, 2021, Norma Pease passed away peacefully at the age of 82 at her home in York, ME from cancer.
Norma was born on January 6th, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Otto Fredrick and Marion F. (Laird) Hoehn. She graduated from high school in Secaucus, NJ in 1955. She then worked as a secretary and attended night classes at New York University in New York City. She vacationed at York Beach where she met her late husband Edgar Albert Pease. Norma and Edgar were married on December 27th, 1958 in Secaucus, NJ.
She was a member of the First Parish Church and volunteered as the Superintendent of the Sunday School and later worked as the church secretary with her dear friend Marg Stonemetz.
She spent much time at camp on First Roach Pond in Kokadjo, ME surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed kayaking, knitting, picking blueberries and making jam. She also enjoyed puzzling, feeding her birds and tending her flowers, but her greatest joy was her family. Often referred to by all as Grammie, Norma was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Grammie was known for her pride in her grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday and her ever present sense of humor. Her big heart and hospitality was enjoyed by many, from cooking dinner for neighborhood kids to hosting Fourth of July Pig Roasts. It is comforting to know the last words she heard on this Earth were “goodnight, I love you”.
She is survived by her son Donald, his wife Denise, and their four children, Abigail, Zachary, Isabel, and Joshua; her daughter Deborah, husband Richard Murphy, and their son Joseph, his wife Sarah, and their daughter Maya; and her daughter Elizabeth, husband James Mansberger, and their two children Samantha and Alexander.
A celebration of life will be planned for this summer. Donations may be made in Norma’s name to York Hospital.
