Norma M. Oliver, 85, of York, Maine passed away on July 11, 2023 at York Hospital in York, Maine. She was born on January 12, 1938 in Old Town, Maine to Norman H. and Margaret (Stevens) Oliver.
After she graduated from nursing school in Lewiston, she started her career working at the Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. She then moved on to Osteopathic Hospital in Portland where she worked and resided for quite a few years. Looking for new horizons, in 1978, she decided to move to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and worked in a hospital there.
Norma made a lot of friends there but felt she needed to be in New England- she missed all 4 seasons. She quickly found a position at Portsmouth Hospital, NH. Then, looking for a smaller, community type hospital, she found the York hospital set in a beautiful sea-side town. She retired after a nursing career of 42 years.
Norma is from a big, wonderful family. She is predeceased by her parents; Norman H. and Margret (Stevens) Oliver of Old Town, Maine. She was the oldest of six. Predeceased by three brothers, Sanford, Norman (Butch) and Daniel Oliver. Still with us are; Deanna Martin of Ohio and Timothy Oliver of Maine. She was blessed with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Norma loved many people and activities, including; gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading books on all those subjects and more. Most of all, she loved people, all of them from anywhere. Since she didn't have children of her own, she cherished the time she could spend with the young ones.
Norma wanted to take care of everyone. When she asked you, "How are you?", She wanted the honest truth and was willing to help in any way she could. Norma will be so missed by many, many people she touched in her life.
We have decided on Saturday, July 29, noon to 5-ish at Norma"s house for a BBQ-bring -a-dish block party style Celebration of a Life well lived. Very casual, in her backyard. All her friends and family are welcome.
