Norman L. Monks Obituary

Norman L. Monks, 88, of York Beach, Maine passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025 after a long illness. He was born on July 10, 1937 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Norman Monks of Warrington, Milton Keynes Borough, Buckinghamshire, England, and the late Mabel Monks of Worcester, Massachusetts. He was also predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Page of Seattle, Washington.

Norman is survived by his wife Anne Monks of York Beach, Maine and their three children: John Monks of San Francisco, California, Sarah Monks of York Beach, Maine and Amy Knight of White River Junction, Vermont. He also leaves behind his cherished grandson, Connor Hansen and three siblings, Janice Herrold, Steven Monks and David Monks

A proud graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) class of 1959 and member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Norman excelled both academically and athletically, playing baseball and soccer both in high school and at WPI and forming many lifelong friendships along the way.  He built a successful career in the mechanical engineering industry, eventually becoming the owner of L. Hardy Knife Co. of Worcester, Massachusetts, D&S Manufacturing and PDK  of Auburn, Massachusetts and Hardy UK in Liverpool, England. His dedication, leadership, and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and friends across the globe.
He was also active in both Rotary International and Junior Achievement.

Outside of work, Norman loved watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, and fishing off of the coast of Maine. If the seas were calm, he could always be found aboard his boat, sharing laughter, stories, and a deep love of the ocean with friends and family.

Norman will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. His life was marked by hard work, humor, and the joy he found in simple pleasures—especially a day on the water.

A celebration of Norman’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to St Jude Hospital.
